And what is the role of companies with French capital in the Polish economy?

There are significant direct investments in Poland. In total, it equals USD 240 billion. This is approximately 40 percent of the Polish GDP. Companies with French capital alone, operating in Poland, have invested PLN 88 billion.

We employ 200,000 employees in 1,000 companies located in Poland. As much as 99.5% of our employees are Polish.

France is investing in most sectors of the economy in Poland. Just to give an example, we have Auchan, Carrefour, E. Leclerc, Decathlon, and Leroy Merlin in trade. We have many large manufacturers, such as Veolia, Michelin, Stellantis, Peugeot, and Renault. We are active in banking, thanks to BNP Paribas, for example. We are present in the data, cosmetics, and infrastructure sectors. Participating in the transformation of the Polish economy over the last 30 years is a great opportunity for us. We hope to continue investing.

What are the prospects? How can we improve the cooperation between our countries and companies?

The energy sector is one of such areas as Poland wants to be more independent in this respect. French EDF is one of three candidates to build a nuclear power plant in Poland. Our offer is comprehensive, from construction through service to technical solutions. Many Polish companies may also be involved in the project. If we get the green light, the French government wants to get involved in financing the power plant.

We are also cooperating and continuing to invest in many other areas. For example, French companies are cooperating with the Polish State Railways (PKP) in the development of high-speed rail. We are providing everything needed for the construction of infrastructure.

What do French investors need to be able to expand their business in Poland?

I have lived in Poland for four years. From my experience, I can say that trust is important. Say what you do and do what you say. Be honest, transparent, and build mutual trust. And this is what we are doing.

The French-Polish Chamber of Commerce has established committees dealing with various matters. We have produced over 150 pages of proposals for the Polish administration to develop the Polish economy. For example, we will soon provide the minister with practical recommendations on how to improve energy production in Poland, and more specifically, how to store energy and develop new production technologies.

We are facing instability resulting from rising inflation and interest rates, occurring not only in the Polish economy. We have to get through this together relying on constructive dialogue.

There is a war behind our border that started in February. Could this discourage some companies from investing in Poland?

Investors like stability and calm environs. I believe that the current problems will be solved. I am confident in the Polish economy in the medium and long term. We know that Poland will play a key role in the reconstruction of Ukraine in the coming years. We want to be part of that. We have to face the crisis as we have overcome many of them before.
